Cheryl Baker is a British television presenter and singer. He is most famous as a member of 1980s pop group Bucks Fizz, and has done for England in the Eurovision Song Contest twice, winning it a second time.

Cheryl Baker was born March 8, 1954, Luton, London under the name Rita Maria Crudgington. After leaving school and a series of secretarial jobs, Cheryl Baker began her professional career singing with the band the Co-Co. A group entered the Song for Europe in 1976 with the song “Wake Up”. They come second, beaten by (Eurovision winner finally) Brotherhood of Man by two points.

This group continued to perform together and in 1978, they entered A Song for Europe again with “The Bad Old Days”. This time they won and went to England to appear in Paris. This song managed 11th place – the lowest place with the British record until then. This song became, hit single reached 13 in the UK Singles Chart. On the back of this, the group released their first (and only) album and further singles. None of these found any success.

In 1980, the group was trying to Eurovision once again. Now under a new name, the Main Event, their song “Gonna Do My Best” comes last in A Song to Europe and soon after, the group disbanded.

Several months later, Baker was contacted by Nichola Martin, who established a new group under the name Bucks Fizz, with the intention to enter the song “Make Up Your Mind” into the Song For Europe in 1981. Joined by Mike Nolan, Bobby G and Jay Aston, Baker performed the song at the contest and won. On 4 April 1981, Baker representing England again at the Eurovision Song Contest. The song was later won by the difference of four points and Bucks Fizz who was thrown into a star overnight.

By winning the contest, Baker became only the third singer to represent the UK twice, following in the footsteps Ronnie Carroll and Cliff Richard. This achievement, however, is fit once again the following year, by Sally Ann Triplett. Bucks Fizz When going to win the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Making Your Mind Up”, Baker made it one of the few artists to take part in Eurovision for their second win in business. According to The Eurovision Song Contest – Official History by John Kennedy O’Connor, Baker also makes the second largest single increase by competitors in the Eurovision contest, moving up from eleventh in 1978 to 1st in 1981.

“Making Your Mind Up” became a hit No.1 in many countries, including England and began running to the group’s success over the next five years. Baker toured the world together with the group and get a lot of hit singles and albums, including two British No.1s more; “The Land Of Make Believe” and “My Camera Never Lies”. Bucks Fizz became established as one of the largest groups of the 1980s.

In December 1984, Baker was involved in a serious coach crash while on tour with the group. He was injured and was rushed to hospital. Although he broke three bones in the spine, he did a quick recovery but Mike Nolan colleague suffered serious head injuries and following, he helped set up charities ‘head first’, which relate to accident victims, especially those related to head injuries. Baker continues to raise money for charity today.

In the mid 1980s, while still with the group, Baker began his career in television presentation. Working on shows such as Record Breakers with Roy Castle and The Saturday Picture Show with Mark Curry, he continued his career both in tandem, though always said that singing is her first love. Bucks Fizz scored their last hits in 1988, and in the same year, Baker began to introduce n his own TV Show Eggs”Baker said. This is going to run for five years.

During this time, he also released two solo single “If Paradise Is Half As Nice” in 1987 and “Sensuality” in 1992, though not from the success of the albums found.
Still continue with the tour and television work, Baker Bucks Fizz finally stopped in December 1993.

After leaving the Bucks Fizz, Baker performed on presenting Record Breakers, now with Kriss Akabusi. In 1997 he became the subject of biography show This Is Your Life TV. To the year 2000, Baker made a lot of guest appearances on television. He also participated in several reality television shows, such as Drop the Celebrity (who won), 24-Hour Quiz (which he also won) and I’m Famous and Scared!.

For the Eurovision Song Contest 2005, she read the points from the United Kingdom. In celebration of its 50th anniversary in the EBU which showed Congratulations, she introduced the song “Waterloo” by ABBA. Then, on the same program, he sang the song the winner Buck Fizz’s “Making Up Your Mind” live with Mike Nolan and Shelley Preston.

In 2006, Baker played the role of Vi Moore in Footloose London production, the musical based on the 1984 motion picture with the same name, at the Novello Theater. In 2009 he directed a youth production at Sevenoaks Footloose, playing to sold out audiences. In 2007 he played the role as Ida in Honk music! and in 2008 he was seen in the role of Mrs Mayor in Seussical production around the site. The tour visited many cities in South East England.

Since 2004, Baker has chosen to perform under the name of Nolan and Preston Original Bucks Fizz and with the other original member Bobby G, Jay Aston, appeared in the video for 2007′s Comic Relief single, “I’m Gonna Be (Miles 500)”. A Bucks Fizz CD with bonus DVD, The Very Best of Bucks Fizz released on May 14, 2007. A new CD of rare material The Lost Masters 2 – The Final Cut was released on May 19, 2008 [13] In April of 2009., Preston announced he was leaving The Original Bucks Fizz and has now been replaced by another member of the original Aston. This will be the first time Baker has done with Aston since 1985.
