Kreviazuk’s parents are Carol and John Kreviazuk. Kreviazuk is a First Nations (through his grandmother, Big 5) and the Scottish and Ukrainian descent through his mother, and Ukraine, through the father.

Kreviazuk’s first album under the rocks and stones, was released in 1996 in Canada and the United States in early 1997 to much critical acclaim.
The album sold over 100,000 copies in the U.S., largely driven by the singles “Surrounded” and. “God Made Me”, while in Canada remains the double platinum with sales over 200,000. Three videos from the album received an easy to play on Much Music video channel and radio (“God Made Me”, “believe” and “Wayne”), but it was fourth, “surrounded”, that Canada was playing his first major hit in 1997.
